How to extract contract deadlines from a PDF

A list of dates is not enough to manage a contract. Each date needs an action, a responsible party, a trigger and the clause that supports it. Start with a small, reviewable list rather than treating every number in a PDF as a deadline.

Start with a readable agreement

Check that you can select and copy the text. Gather the schedules, amendments and orders that affect the agreement. If pages are missing, scanned or unreadable, record that gap before relying on an extracted list.

Capture the obligation, not just the date

For each candidate item, record who must act, what they must do, the timing language, any conditions, and the source page or section. Keep the original excerpt beside your interpretation so another reviewer can check it.

Leave unknown triggers unresolved

“Within 30 days of receipt” needs an actual receipt date. The agreement’s effective date is not a substitute. Record the missing event and ask the owner to supply it; do not manufacture a calendar date.

Review before exporting

Check the complete clause and its cross-references. Separate mandatory actions from optional rights and historical dates. Assign an owner, confirm the interpretation, and then export the reviewed items into your working tracker.

See the workflow in DueSight

DueSight helps reviewers check candidate renewal, notice and payment obligations beside source excerpts, confirm dates and conditions, and export confirmed items. Start with the fictional demo—no account or contract upload needed.

Real-document access is an invitation-only assisted beta, initially scoped to one readable-text PDF of up to four pages. Scope and any fee are agreed before access. Results may be incomplete or wrong and require human review. Automatic reminders are not available.
